What is Facial Recognition?
Biometrics: The future is now.
How it works
Use this advanced facial recognition system with confidence.
Facial recognition is a biometric that uses a unique, measurable characteristic of a person's face for identification.
Using top-grade biometrics as the basis for its comprehensive software solution, FaceFirst® can effectively enhance your business security, public safety, law enforcement and customer recognition. It matches individual faces from a live image with the face of an individual contained in the system's database.
Until now, the high cost of facial recognition limited its use to government entities and large-scale enterprises. With FaceFirst® you get top-quality, feature-packed facial recognition for a remarkably affordable price:
- Provides fast and accurate identification using a robust information retrieval system
- Delivers reliable performance (low false-accept/reject and false-match/non-match rates)
- Is easy to use, with a plug-and-play interface that requires no training
- Uses many safeguards to secure stored data against theft, loss or reproduction
- Builds in extraordinary 3D algorithms to enhance identification
Why facial recognition is better than finger scans.
Finger scans have a slightly better positive-match record than facial identification. However, public databases contain 1.3 billion photos of individuals, while fingerprint sets number only in the hundred millions. Also, while everyone has a photographable face, five percent of the population does not have a readable fingerprint.
Facial recognition is also the easiest biometric to use. Unlike finger and retina scans, it does not require personal contact with individuals to achieve recognition. In crowded transportation facilities and for perimeter surveillance, facial identification is the only feasible system. Also, in a post-9/11 world, the public has come to accept the protective role of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.
Facial recognition: The FaceFirst® advantage.
Other facial recognition systems are completely dependent on automation, which requires statistical parameters to be set for allowable matches. If the match level is set too low, the false-positive rate zooms upward, resulting in confrontations with innocent customers and potential privacy rights issues. If the match level is set too high, lawbreakers will slip through, undetected.
FaceFirst® solves this problem in two ways.
First, FaceFirst® uses the world's most highly developed facial recognition software. It is patent-pending technology rated number one by the 2006 Face Recognition Vendor Test conducted by the U.S. Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Second, FaceFirst® is the only facial recognition system that adds a human interface. The FaceFirst® Operator Center software adds the ability for a human to verify a match when the software cannot positively detect one.
