The Loss Prevention Foundation and FaceFirst team up to enhance security certification that will help retailers maximize security while protecting biometric data.
(LOS ANGELES, April 29, 2019) The Loss Prevention Foundation (LPF) and FaceFirst have formed a partnership to add biometric privacy and compliance content to the LPF’s industry-leading LPQualified and LPCertified certification programs for loss prevention leaders. The initiative, which will be the first of its kind, is needed as retailers adopt face recognition in great numbers to fight the organized retail crime epidemic. The total cost of inventory shrink to the retail industry is $47 billion annually, according to the NRF.
The new content, which will be available mid-year, is designed to ensure that retailers are adhering to best practices around responsible biometric data handling and purging, human verification, encryption, face redaction and other key privacy concepts. Proctored LPQ and LPC exams are offered at more than 1400 locations throughout the US and at 6000 locations worldwide and are taken by career retail security professionals ranging from early-stage to the executive level. FaceFirst will also offer scholarships to qualified industry professionals.
“The new biometric security content is going to greatly enhance our certification,” said Terry Sullivan, LPC, president of the Loss Prevention Foundation. “Our partners are what make it possible for us to continue advancing the LP profession through education.”
The foundation’s LPQualified course and exam were created with input from more than 170 loss prevention professionals representing over 75 of today’s leading retail companies, while the LPCertified course and exam were designed with input from 300 professionals representing more than 130 leading retail and solution provider companies.
“The Loss Prevention Foundation is the most respected educator in the retail security space,” said Peter Trepp, FaceFirst CEO and author of The New Rules of Consumer Privacy. “Our partnership not only fulfills much-needed demand for industry best practices but is a sign that this transformative technology is here to stay.”
FaceFirst is the exclusive provider of biometric privacy content to the LPF.
