Austin Business Journal Hails FaceFirst Among Top Innovators

“You might not recognize this company at first glance, but it can certainly recognize you. FaceFirst just relocated to Austin from Los Angeles a few months ago. The startup has created facial recognition software; it can be used to spot criminals in a crowd, yes, but the company has also touted wider potential, like helping retailers ID customers and their buying history when they walk into a shop. ... The company is led by CEO and Chairman Dan Merkle."

FaceFirst fosters a culture that rewards innovation and unites our team around our mission to build a safer and more personalized planet. Based on the overwhelming number of positive reviews by employees, FaceFirst has been featured in U.S.A. Today as one of the top companies to work for in Los Angeles.

FaceFirst, the market leader in facial recognition software, was named by Comparably, a leading workplace culture and compensation site, as one of the top 15 companies to work for in Los Angeles. The award was derived from sentiment ratings provided by employees who anonymously rated their employers on Comparably.com between March 8, 2018, and March 8, 2019.

The awards for Best Places to Work by Region were determined based on a series of 50+ structured and comprehensive workplace questions in core culture categories, including: Compensation, Leadership, Professional Development, Work-Life Balance, Perks & Benefits and more.

“We’re honored to be named as one of the best companies to work for in Los Angeles, a city brimming with world-changing brands,” said FaceFirst CEO Peter Trepp. “We work hard to foster a culture that rewards innovation and unites our team around our mission.”

The answer to each question was given a numerical score and then compared to companies of similar size across the U.S. Additional weight was given to scores at companies with more participation from their employee base. Comparably awards are based purely on participation and scores; there were no fees or costs associated with participating, nor was nomination required.

“Comparably’s Best Places to Work in Los Angeles recognizes the most outstanding companies in this region, as rated on by employees,” said Jason Nazar, Comparably CEO. “Based on the highest scores in nearly 20 workplace culture categories, from compensation and leadership to perks and benefits, it is clear that these organizations truly are the best.”
